Hats Off to CT

Remember this ridiculous “Smart Choice” symbol I wrote about back on October 5, 2009?  Well, Connecticut Attorney General, Richard Blumenthal, is taking them to task saying it is “overly simplistic, inaccurate and ultimately misleading.”

After what I’ve been learning about the FDA and other government agencies assigned to safeguard the American food supply, I’m not going to hold my breath but it DOES restore a little of my faith. I’m so glad to see someone step up for what is right EVEN if he may ultimately be shot down by the food giants and/or agribusiness. <sigh> If it brings attention to this issue and spares just one family from being mislead then I’ll try to see that as a success.

It will probably be saved on a technicality. As Marion Nestle points out in her Food Politics blog,  “It’s that debatable philosophic argument again: Is a so-called ‘better-for-you’ product necessarily a good choice?”
